‘When I dipt into the future far as human eye could see,
Saw the vision of the world and all the wonder that would be.’
~ Lord Alfred Tennyson
Greetings,
Food for Thought – creating a healthy diet for your mind. From a wellbeing perspective, many of us make good use of our time focusing on the ‘food we eat’, is it healthy for us – how much sugar, salt, trans fats, acidity, calories? At the same time, we can also effectively apply this same principle to what we absorb mentally. After all, that which is poorly digested or toxic to our mind can also lead to a disruption in our physical health.
In the business world and in some family dynamics, leadership – both good and bad – can have a far-reaching influence throughout an entire organization or family. This also holds true for our mental state affecting our emotional and physical states. Be on the lookout for something that speaks to your heart and is both nutritious and delicious for your mind…a poem or quote, a painting at your local art gallery, a walk through nature, a good mystery book, a funny movie, a musical concert, a beautiful sunset! Take it in and digest slowly! Enjoy!
In this New Year, we continue to highlight those with whom we collaborate or who simply inspire us. Gerald P. Kaminsky, a managing director at Neuberger Berman and graduate of Harvard Business School subscribes to a leadership style that is influential in a positive and constructive way at the office and also to the ‘pay it forward’ initiative of giving back with a selfless spirit. Excerpts from a recent article in a Harvard Business School publication state that throughout his career, he has used what he learned in the HBS classroom every day and those experiences outside the classroom have had a deep influence on him.
In 2005, Kaminsky established an Endowment at the school that supports curricular innovation. The Fund supports Programs such as Arthur Rock Center’s Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, which brings distinguished entrepreneurs from a wide variety of backgrounds to campus to provide mentorship and assistance to students launching new ventures. Gerry says he is leaving it up to the school to decide how to best use the funds. “Education is dynamic,” he observes. “Giving talented, caring people the flexibility to come up with activities that will be meaningful to the students of today, that’s really the least I can do.”
Be inspired to use your Past as a springboard for the Future and keep in mind to enjoy the Present!
May your days be filled with Love, Health, Happiness, Kindness and Good Thoughts!
Breathe deeply, Walk daily and Smile!
With Love, Peace and Light,
Linda Shields, Founder
